Why I Think The Treaty Of Waitangi Had The Biggest Impact On NZ

The Treaty of Waitangi was signed on the 6th of February 1840. The treaty was ment to bring peace between the Europeans and the Maori tribes.

However, in 1840 the Maori became unhappy with the terms of the treaty and they then stopped selling their land. European settlers were upset because they couldn't buy any land and it put pressure on the crown. The problems over the land caused the wars which lasted from 1845-1872. During these wars around 800 Europeans and 1800 Maori died.

Although the fighting ended, the problems over the treaty are still happening today which is resulting in the treaty settlements we here about in the news.

An effect of this treaty is education. This allows children to go to school and learn a whole bunch of new things and develop a whole bunch of new skills such as, reading, wrighting, maths ect.

Another effect of this treaty was building. Afew years after the treaty was signed, the Europeans started to build thing like houses, roads, schools, big buildings, ect. This helped with creating a bigger community.

Overal, the treaty of Waitangi has had the biggest effect on NZ history because without it we would not be here or have the things we have now like, roads houses schools, big buildings, ect.

The Day In The Life Of A Security Camera

What we had to do was to chose a person or an object to do a recount about to learn more about Empathy. So I chose to do " A Day In The Life Of A Security Camera ".

With a slight beep I woke up all ready to start a brand new day of watching the school. As I rotated around  I saw a few girls that were whispering to each other walk past. I rotated arround to see what they could be whispering about. I zoomed in with my lens on a girl walking past. I then knew that she was the one they were whispering about.

As the bell rang I saw kids rushing out of their classes with food in their hands. I rotated around and saw one of the girls that we're whispering this morning, push the girl they were whispering about off the playground. I then saw her heeding to the sick bay with her hand over her nose. I felt really bad for her. :(

As the bell rang for lunch, I saw kids running out from their class rooms with lunch-boxes. I noticed the girl from this morning go and sit down on a bench all alone. I then zoomed in on one of the other girls from this morning, and I saw her pick up a ball and throw it at the girl sitting on the bench.

I then saw the girl pick up the ball and throw it back at the other girls. They then went away out of my vision. Once they came back they had brought a duty teacher over. I saw them talking about something but I don't know what because it was to nosey to hear anything.

Once the bell had rung for home time, I saw kids and their pearnts walk past. I then saw the girl that got picked on, go and sit on the bench bellow me and get out her cellphone. I zoomed in and saw that she had a message from the girls that picked on her. I looked up and saw the other girls laugh, point and stick out their tougngs at her. It must be horable to get picked on. :(

Our Plastic Bag Dress

Reduce, Reuse And Recycle Reflection

My goal was to make sure that I don't put my plastic bags in the yellow bin.

I chose this because I used to put my plastic bags in the yellow bin when they had paper in them.
For this goal I made sure that I put my plastic bags in the red bin even if they had paper in them because I just tipped the paper into the yellow bin and then put the plastic bag in the red bin.

My next step is to remind my mum to always take the lids off of the milk bottles before putting them in the yellow bin.

Reading Reflection

WALT: select and retrieve accurate and coherent information

I think I am at Relational because I can give more than one answer and explain my answers as well.

I have found this learning helpful because I now know how to select and retrieve accurate and coherent information and before I didn't even know what it was.

Mereana's Sequence Project

WALT: Sequence the life of a recyclable object.

I think I am at Extended Abstract because I ordered the stages of reusing/recycling and I gave an over all statement.

Mereana's Maths Assessment

In this video I made a mistake because I said 3 devided by 22236 when i should have gone 22236 devided by 3.

My Poem

Always remember that no matter how weak and useless you feel, somewhere you are someone's reason to smile,
So stand tall and let everyone know that today, you are so much stronger than you were yesterday.

I put Rhyme into my poem because today and yesterday Rhyme.

Poetry Reflection

WALT: Describe, explain and evaluate poetic language features in a text.

I think I am at relational because I can explain why the author chose to use the poetic language features and give examples.

My Poem

Upset is destroying wonderful sea lift with a giant garbage ocean.
Furious is dumping trash into the used-to-be wonderfully clean ocean.
Depressed is sea animals dying in the giant plastic ocean.
Worried is wondering if trash will keep getting dumped into the ocean.
Do you feel this way?

My Maths Assessment

I think that I am at Extended Abstract because I made a video to show that I know how to solve this problem and that I can teach it to someone as well.

I made a mistake in this video because it was supposed to be 28 devided  by 7 and not 7 devided by 28.

Passion Project-short film

For my passion project we chose to make a short film on bullying. A passion project it something that you would like to make or learn about in your spare time. We chose to make a short film because we wanted to know how to make one and all of the different steps in the making of a short film. Right now we are still planning what is going to happen.

This is what we have come up with so far:

® it will start off in the house with her talking to her parents about new school .
®mum asks when she is going to bring home her friends Claire says no in a shy voice .
®moved country because of dads work\job.
®she sees the cool kids on the way to school then they start whispering about her.
®she sits in the cool kids seat then she gets pushed off. The teacher walks in then says to Claire how about you sit over there.
®sence lunch room.
®cool kids talking outside lunch room about someone being nice to Claire so they can get Claire's number then they go in and do it and Claire byes it .
®walking home then she gets a message then she reads it at home it was the cool kids they want her to come to a party tomorrow night.
®Claire found out it was a trick the made her feel bad about
herself and feel insaqure .
®  END shows teacher messages and parents get phone call.

Mereana And Katie's Maths Assessment

WALT: Write and solve problems involving decimals

I think that we are at Extended Abstract because we showed that we know how to divide decimals and that we can teach someone else how to solve them.

Art Reflection

I think that I am at Multistructural because I used some of the tips on how to make a great cartoon, such as, I started with simple shapes, I made it a cartoon and not a portrait, I took my time, and I sketched the out line lightly and added details later.
I think that my next step is to make sure that the shading is only going in one direction.

The Coconut Octopus

The coconut Octopus adapts into its habitat in many ways.

The Coconut Octopus protects itself in many different ways, for an example, the Coconut Octopus carry's coconut and clam shells across the ocean floor to make fortresses for protection. Not only, but also, when the coconut octopus is a baby, it can even be found hiding in a bottle cap.

The Coconut Octopuses diet usually includes, shrimp, crabs, clams, and fish. When the Coconut Octopus hunts its prey, it ejects it with a paralyzing saliva before breaking them down into tiny peices with its beak.

The Coconut Octopus can usually be found in the sandy bottoms of bays and lagoons so that if it can not find a clam or coconut shell to hide in, it can just bury itself in the sand with only it's eyes showing.

Coconut Octopuses blend in with their surroundings in many unique ways.

What Dose The Porcupine Do When Predators Come Near?

What dose the porcupine do when predators come near?

The author has written in the characteristics part of the text, that " When a predator approaches, the porcupine will turn its back, raise its quills and lash out a threat with its tail."

I think I gave an Extended Abstract answer because I had identified the information that I was asked to answer and I said why it was the answer and I also generalised what it had to do with the text.

The Shadow Thieves

I think we are Relational because we have photos to match the story, we didn't give away the ending and we used both photos and videos.
Next time I think we should put different photos on and not just use the same photos over and over again.

Goals Update

My new goal this week is to focus on putting the learning intentions in my books to show what I am learning.

With my old goal of asking questions when I don't know what to do, I have asked question a few times like when I was looking for a website I asked some people. I am still working on this

Solve problems involving exponents

I think I am at Extended Abstract because i made a video showing that i can teach someone else how to use the strategy made a mistake in this video by saying that 2x2x2=6 when it should have been 8. I also made the same mistake when I said that 2x2x2x2x2x2=12 when it should have been 64

End Of Term Reflection

This term I am proud of my self portrait because I think I made it look quite a lot like me and it was a fun and challenging proses.

This term I have improved on my maths because before I didn't know anything about exponents or how to add them.

My next step is to try and reach Extended Abstract in my writing and reading.

Reading Assessment

Why do You Think The Beast Was His Favourite?

I think that "The Beast" was Logan's favourite because he was an amazing rugby player and Logan was inspiered by him to always do your best in any sport.

Why Did He Have Pictures Of His Heros On His Wall?

I think that he had pictures of his Heros on his bedroom walls so that they would remind him of all the other rugby players that performed mirecals on the feald and they would also inspire him to always try your hardest.

I think that I gave an Relational answer because I gave a reason explaining why he thought the Beast was his favourite and why he had pictures of all the rugby players on his walls.

Goals update

Last week's goals were to

"My goal this week is to take risks:

  • when I don’t know how to do something.

My second goal is to use all of the persistence strategies. "

For my first goal I haven't taken any risks with my learning. I will take risks by working on gaining my confidence when speaking in front of a class.

I am unsure of the second goal what the persistence strategies are but I am going to work on this.

We also discussed her reading goal around making inferences which I am able to do multistructural and relational because I can explain the inference. My next step is to evaluate the quality of the inference.
